Do you think Caesar's killers were justified in their actions?

On March 15, 44 before the Common Era, Julius Caesar was supposed to attend a senate meeting. This was the perfect opportunity for the conspirators or as they would like to be called “Liberators” to assassinate Caesar. Since he would be by himself because only senators could attend such a meeting, they decided this was the time. When he got there he was presented with a petition to recall his exiled brother. The other senators then crowded around him, trying to give their own consent. When Cimber grabbed Caesar’s shoulders and pulled down his tunic. Casca then brought forward a dagger and attempted to stab Caesar in the next. Quickly, Caesar turned around and caught Casca’s arm. Casca then shouted for help, creating commotion from all the other senators. Caesar then tried to escape but could not see from all the blood. The rest of the senators ran after him and then stabbed him to death. According to historians, sixty or more men participated in the assassination of Julius Caesar. He got stabbed twenty three times, but only one was considered to be lethal which was the second one to his chest. The reason for his assassination as far as I can tell, is basically because the other senators didn’t want Caesar to possess the power of dictatorship anymore over the Roman Empire. They didn’t want him to have access to anymore more power than he already did. And as a solution they decided to plan an assassination. Now was this right? No, I do not personally think so. Just because you do not like someone ruling over your town, city, or country does not mean that you have the right to go and murder them. I don’t think anyone no matter what circumstance has any right to take another human being’s life away from them. That just isn’t fair.

    1. I think that Julio Caesar's death was unjustified because he didn't deserved to get killed, he did everything right. He helped Rome get to a higher level and overpass every other dynasty and he helped conquer more dynasties to get stronger and be more respected

  2. Yes, I agree with you that if someone was not a just and fair ruler doesn't mean that you have the right to kill him. And stab him 23 times. That is not right.

  3. I also think that Caesar's death was not justified. There must have been some other way to get Julius Caesar to realize what emotions he was creating. Maybe the murderers could've gathered the public and negotiate/reason with him.

    2. I wouldn't think convincing would work, but perhaps opening his mind to what he caused might trigger something through his head. Reasoning and convincing are two very different things.

    3. I like the way you worded you comment. And negotiating public would definitely make sure he wouldn't try to attack the Senators.

  4. I agree with you, I do not think Caesars death was justified and it should not have been done. Violence is never the answer, and just because you don't like someone, you should not stab them to death!!!!! Caesars killers did not justify their actions and were right to be punished by Marc Antony and Octavian Augustus

  6. I personally disagree with you to some degree. I think the Roman senators should have talked things out with him and tried to work out his power. But if he still disagreed and continued with his questionable power, then murder was the right option. And if the public disagreed, then don't murder. But if the public agrees for his death, than execute him.

  7. I also believe that Caesar's death was not justified. I especially agree with the point that someone cannot be murdered just because other people dislike him/her. I feel that negotiation with Caesar would have solved the problem as well.

  8. I agree with you. They could have found another way out instead of assassinating him. They could have tried negotiating with him in public. There is always a better way to avoid violence.

  20. I agree that Caesar's death was not justified. The senators were just scared of losing their own power, which had already been reduced when Roman generals began to gain power. They were also probably jealous of Caesar, as he gained nearly all the power that the Senate used to have. He was killed by a bunch of power hungry, greedy patricians.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I do not like the way his friends attacked him and unfotunatley turned out to be his death.Caesar was doing the right thing but his fellow senate members got jealous and tried to kill him.The Friends of his were not the greatest. They tricked him into joining a Senate Metting and they turned on him leaving to his death because he tried to run away.I do not like the way they did that

  22. I think that Julius shouldn't have been stabbed. It was wrong of the Liberators to murder Julius just for their sake. They should have at least consulted the people of Rome for their opinion on Julius Caesar.

    ReplyDelete
  23. that was so wrong they should not have killed him that was COMPLETELY unfair

    ReplyDelete
  24. I also think this was a cruel and unacceptable way to handle the situation. If they wanted to solve this problem, they should've thought it through and done it peacefully. Using violence would not have done any good.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think that it was unfair also. Just because someone does not like how someone rules does not mean that they should kill them. I know that they thought that they would loose their jobs but they should have just talked to him. I think that this was very unfair.

  26. I feel that Julius Caesar should not have been assassinated by the Senate. You have no right to simply kill someone because you disagree with them. Just because you crave for a lot of unnecessary power.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think that Caeser's death was not justified because people should not be killed just because they are disliked.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that Caesars death was not justified because of the fact that it was basically an assassination and also because the only reason he was assassinated was because the Senators were Greedy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I feel like Caeser's death was unfair because you cannot kill somebody if you simply do not like them and the amount of power that they have.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think that this is cruel and unjust. The Senators thought they would be heros, But they were wrong and later were killed because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I feel that the killers of Caesar did not have the right to kill him because they could have done something different. For example the killers were patricians (in the senate) so they did have a say in what Caesar did or decided. They may not of had a big say, but they could have tried to change things before they killed him. Also, Caesar wasn't the only person who had more power over other people. So did the Senate! The Senate had MUCH more power over the plebeians and they never respected them. In conclusion, I believe that the Senate did this to get attentions because there was someone of greater power than them and they didn't like it. Even though they were getting a taste of what the Plebeians went through for years.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with you because Caesar did not deserve such a dishonorable death. Just because the Senators were concerned, that does not justify an assassination.

  34. I think Caesar's death was an injustice to him and all the people of Rome. He should not have been assassinated just because a few people disliked him. I mean he helped the poor by giving them land, so killing him made no literal sense. People should know that violence is not the answer and they should have at least worked things out verbally instead of going in without reason and killing him. Stabbing a man 23 times should never be a solution.

  61. I think that Caesar's death was not justified. This is because, you never know, Caesar might even give a lot more power to the Senate. I think that the Senators' rushed to the decision and they should have thought about it a lot more. This was not fair!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with you that Julius Caesar's assassination was unjust and unfair. The Senate shouldn't have killed him in such a way. They should have planned the attack better so that as more people would be happier. They could've thought it through, maybe making a vote to exile him. Such a violent response is unnecessary, and Caesar worked hard for his role as dictator. They didn't think about what it would be like if they had been in his place. Spending a life-time to get to a rank, finally ruling an empire, and then being violently stabbed to death unexpectedly. It's wrong to take away someone's life, and they got what they deserved in the end (killed by Octavian also known as Augustus and Antony or forced to suicide).

  63. i think that Cesar death was unjustified he was a nice guy he did not deserve to get killed he helped conquer dynasties he saved peoples life's he also helped to get even more stronger i think that was unfair.

  64. I do not think that Caesar's assassination was necessary, nor justified, since it actually led to the end of the Roman Republic. The liberators, in my opinion, were to anxious to let Caesar end the Roman Republic.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with the author of this blog that this is a brutal killing for no appropriate reason. I believe everyone should be reminded that you should not kill someone just because they are controlling people in an area. There could have been other ways to solve the problem, like exile him or explain to him about his rising power and how it could affect Rome's future. Unfortunately, the Senators decided to resort to the last option on the table - murder.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I totally agree with the blogger, this person is right they should have never killed him, I don't think violence isn't the solution to anything. I also feel like Caesar's killers did this all for fame. Plus, they should be happy, and anything other than jealous because Caeser works hard to do so much for the civilization.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think it is fair that Caesar was killed if he had gained too much power (which he already had) he wouldn't listen to the Senate. And why couldn't Caesar just stick to the republic he thrived for way to much power. If he hadn't wanted so much power maybe he could have lived a whole life.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I agree with the person who wrote this article. Just because someone in the government doesn't mean that you should kill them and think they are bad. Caesar was only trying to help Rome become a better place. But the citizens of Rome saw Caesar as a threat. They thought that Caesar was becoming way to powerful and thought that he was trying to take Rome back to the time where Rome was ruled by kings. The people did not understand that he was only trying to help Rome become a better place. Also, instead of the Senate killing Caesar, they could have talked about it and resolved this issue. There is another reason why the Senate wanted to kill Caesar. The people saw violence as a political weapon. The Senate killed Caesar so they could their power in the government back. This is why I say that killing Caesar was not a fair thing to do.

  69. I agree with you. Although Caesar did have a pretty big ego and wanted power over the people, he was an extraordinary leader that was capable of many things. The senators in this case, was little bit senile in their thinking. Murder is evil, nobody with good sense would participate in it. If you hate someone in your school, would you stab them to death? Most likely, the answer is no. The senators were very wrong in this case to murder Caesar, for he was a good leader and murder is not allowed in any cases.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes, I agree with you. I feel like the senators rushed. Who knows? Maybe Caesar would've been a great dictator and improve Rome. He already preformed great acts, why not he preform more? It is for Rome after all ... isn't it? Just because you hate someone for what they are doing, doesn't mean you kill them. I hate my enemy, do I want to kill them? No. I want them to change. The senators shouldn't have used violence, but peace instead. Just like the killing of the Gracchus brothers, they saw this as a political weapon. I don't get one thing though. If sixty people participated in this act, then who would they want to be dictator? Rome needed someone strong to be stable. Wouldn't they have fought for dictator? If they chose someone else to be dictator, then what's the point of killing Caesar? I have a strong feeling that the killing was rushed. They wanted to kill him, that's it, before he took more power. They should've thought how he changed Rome and how he could have improved it. I felt like he could improve Rome. Also, they didn't expect the consequences. There were people out there that cared about Caesar. They wanted to get revenge for his death. Antony and Octavian that is. They were very devastated that Caesar died so they killed each and everyone of his murderers. How nice of them. I appreciate them for the act. The senators... how foolish were they?

  105. Caesar didn't deserve to die, because if you would just murder someone because of how they rules, that's wrong. The citizens loved him and even a whole month was named after him!

  106. Caesar should not die, because he was helping other people. The other people should be punished who killed Caesar. Caesar thought that he did not need the Senate anymore. Then, the Senators killed him. Then, Octavian punished the Senators. Caesar was a nice man who helped the poor. He just wanted to build organizations. So, I don't think he should be stabbed and should die. So, Caesar's death was not justified.

  109. I agree with the person who created this blog because All Caesar did was made
Rome a powerful and good empire . I also agree with the people who killed him because When he was respected he got all animated and started to over react a lot.

  110. Caesar's' death was NOT fair. He was considered a good faithful leader of Rome, and the senate was just wrong trying to kill him. Especially Brutus. Brutus is the reason we have the word 'brutal'. He killed a man who thought of him as a son, and saved his life in the war against Pompey. Caesar could've fought off the attackers if he wanted, but what truly made him give in to the tyranny of the Senators was the sight of Brutus wielding a dagger, his adopted family trying to kill him to "Protect Rome" This betrayal is what really killed Caesar. To quote Shakespeare, "You too, Brutus?"

  111. YASHAS RAVI: I also think Ceaserś dearth wasńt justified, and the Senate could have just limited his power by a little force instead of murdering him.

  112. I agree, they could have just compromised and split Ceasar's power.

  114. I don't this Caesura's death was not justified because he earned the title as dictator and everything that he did to help Rome was wasted because of the senate.

  115. Caesar's death was not fair. Just because he is taking too much power doesn't mean that they can kill him. He was helping the Roman empire expand by so much. The people of Rome liked him as a ruler. He was taking good care of Rome. But then the senate comes and stab him 23 times. So this is why the death of Caesar's death was not fair.

  116. Caesar's death was definitely not fair. He was a great leader for Rome and protected them from any attacks because he was a general as well. The Senate was wrong for killing him because instead of getting praise like they expected, they just ended up getting killed.

  117. I think that Caesar's death was unjustified because they did not kill him rightfully ad it was not just. Caesar was a respected leader of Rome and was admired by many Roman's, especially the poor. Even though some of them did not like him, that doesn't mean that they should go out and kill him through their own will. They should have checked with the society first.

  118. I think that Caesar's killers weren't justified in their actions, because Caesar was admired by many Roman citizens. He helped many poor Romans, and gave them farmland. Just because the senators didn't like Caesar doesn't mean that its a rightful act to kill him. Instead of them becoming heroes, the society started riots all over Rome, and there were many disasters, just because the senators killed a dominating leader.
